New Developments in Screening: Tools, Techniques and Privacy Issues

Professionals in the field of mentoring are aware that a solid screening process is essential in keeping children and volunteers safe, and important in reducing the liability of the mentoring program.  But as staff time and resources become more and more stretched, this puts a burden on the program to not only maintain its initial intake screening process, but it really stretches a program’s resources to continually assess and screen throughout the mentor-mentee relationship.

Town Hall Forum Preliminary Report

On September 21, 2004 attendees at the Mentoring Partnership's Minnesota Mentor Conference were a part of a Town Hall Forum on the state of mentoring. Marking its ten year anniversary, the Mentoring Partnership wanted to reflect back and document the progress of the mentoring movement and begin to set the agenda for the next decade and the next generation of kids that need to be matched with caring adult mentors. Interactive technology allowed conference participants to simultaneously “vote” on issues and challenges, capture the collective feedback, and spur further conversation among participants, panelists, and the moderator. CEO and Doctor Receive Connecting with Youth Award

Leonard Snellman, M.D., a pediatrician with HealthPartners White Bear Lake (Minnesota) Clinic, was honored at the Minnesota Business Partnership's Annual Dinner by some of Minnesota’s largest employers for his work mentoring young people through Family Means in Stillwater, Minn.

Al Annexstad, chairman, president and CEO of Owatonna, Minn.-based Federated Insurance Companies, was also honored with the Connecting with Youth Lifetime Achievement Award for his leadership and generous support of Big Brothers Big Sisters.

2004 Angel of Mentoring Award Winners Announced

The Mentoring Partnership of Minnesota wishes to honor the individuals and organizations that embody the best in mentoring in Minnesota by announcing the recipients for its third Angel of Mentoring awards. The honors were presented at the Minnesota Mentoring Conference on September 21, 2004 during a special ceremony.
